But you are gonnaa haave to look past his shit-eating grin to see it.

kens racing pix Candy dash and Power Wheels Races night
Scheduled to be our 1st night out with the new-to-us Rubendall Trucking / Goodno Promotions / Vanderhaags Inc Avenger Racing chassis Outlaw Sprint Kart, we had missed practice day and the 1st points race due to health problems with the driver and the crew chief.
As we readied for the trip, the crew chief had a schedule complication at work. As it became time to go, a customer came in with some additional and time consuming needs. Mark made the decision to drive his personal vehicle into the salvage area to speed things up, and ran over an object, destroying a tire. The call was made for Josh and Cindy to just pick him up and deal with it later. That was to set the pace for the evening.
Upon arrival at the track, it was raining slightly, so the decision was made to put up the EZ-UP style canopy. While setting it up, it was discovered a nut had worked loose, and one of the buttons that hold the canopy in place was damaged. The pace continues.
The #53 car was unloaded, and there were a few at track adjustments to make. We hadn't yet fitted Joshua to the 5 point safety belt system installed in the car. When we tried, we found the belts to not be long enough in their current mounted positions. We removed and relocated the lap belts, and adjusted length on the others, and all was well. Some other minor adjustments were needed, as, again, this was the 1st night out. Those adjustments were completed just as it was time for hot laps to begin. Upon starting the engine, it ran poorly and would not Idle. It was also determined to be leaking fuel badly. The theme of the night continued, and we were unable to test the car during hot laps. I contacted Corey Johnson of JF2 Racing, and he advised that the float likely was sticking in the carb. I pulled the float bowl, and the float was indeed full of fuel. Corey supplied me with a spare float he had, and I assembled the carb, and it still was leaking fuel. Corey Johnson of JF2 racing then supplied me with the carb from their spare motor.
Their motor and carb are built for a different class, which mandates a smaller, more stock carb. But running at a handicap beats not running at all.
the repairs were done in time for the 1st heat. Joshua went out on the track, scheduled to start the event on the outside of the front row. Upon the drop of the green flag, young Joshua made his way int the lead, and was being followed by the 21 of Devin Wignall. Upon entering turn 3, the left rear wheel separated itself from the #53 Avenger, leaving just 3 wheels on the ground. Unknowing of any serious problems, Joshua continued to race, and lead, on just 3 wheels, until the caution light was lit. Joshua was lining up for the restart, when they shut off his motor and put him and his car in the pit area. When he got out he said " I was kind of mad that there was a restart when I was leading" ... It was determined that the hub was missing a pinch bolt that secures it to the axle, and that was missed during the winter re-do. The repairs were made, and Joshua was ready for the 2nd heat.
Josh started the 2nd heat in the back row, and raced his way to a 2nd place finish. Thee car was working well, although a little short on power from where it should be (Due to the smaller carb)
The poor scoring finish in the 1st heat race landed Joshua in a 6th place start for the A Main. The 2 drivers on the front row, McKenna Haase and Devin Wignall are both very talented drivers with well maintained, very capable equipment. If Joshua could complete the 15 lap feature with a 3rd place or better finish, the night would be a success. Upon the drop of the rag, Josh quickly made his way to 3rd and began working on the 55 car of McKenna Haase. There was an incident in turn 3 that caused the caution to come out before a lap had been completed. That situation calls for a complete restart. Upon the restart, Josh had a little more trouble making his way towards the front, but eventually found himself racing for 2nd with the 55 car. The race between them lasted several laps. Several laps of good, clean, high speed racing. McKenna would gain a slight advantage, then Joshua would. And so on.Eventually Joshua would get past the 55, and start his trek towards the 21 of wignall. There was a lot of space, and not a lot of time, but Moffitt charged forward. Thee 21 of Wignall and the 8 of Johnson were involved in an incident in turn three, bring out the caution. The restart showed Moffitt in the lead, trailed by Haase. The 55 was almost pushing the 53 down the back chute, as the drivers got ready for the green flag, Upon the restart, the 55 gained an on track advantage, and the 53 was quick to get it back. The 55 made another charge or two during the remaining three laps, and kept very close to the 53 of Moffitt, but Moffitt was able to hang on for the win.
A great night of racing, preceded by lots of problems, this is one of thee reasons we do this for a hobby. Life lessons are learned here. This is an important one. Even if you are having problems, hold your head up, secure a team if needed to help you through, and do your best to overcome. Joshua had set a goal early in the night to carry the checkered flag, and through hard work and teamwork, we were able to achieve that goal.

a mixed bag, for sure, tonight. The track was pretty rough, and racing got started real late because they were working on it. We went out for hot laps, and I knew the chain was a tad looser than normal, they roll pretty smooth usually, if left kind of loose. But tonight, maybe a combination of the rough track, the loose chain, and the type of sprocket we used, just after getting the green for hot laps, the chain came off. No big deal, really, we just went to the pits and adjusted it. we went out for the 1st heat race and started 4th and ran up to 2nd, behind winner devin wignall.
the chain neeeded some adjustment, but there was no time for that. Apperently the rule that was implemented after last winter's rules meeting, giving us 10 minutes between heat races to make repairs/ changes, wasnt in play that night. So I buttoned it up so we could make it to the grid, it was really really loose, but I had no choice. 10 minutes would have been more thaan enough. Going on the track, guess what ?? the chain came off. The track staff was kind enough to let me try to repair it. 60 seconds, i couldnt do it. So we didnt start the 2nd heat. NOT MY FAULT, IF WE WOULD HAVE HAD THE 10 MINUTES IMPLEMENTED THIS YEAR< WE WOULD HAVE RACED AND GOTTEN POINTS .. who knew they were gonna not allow that ?? I would have beeenbetter off to leave it alone.
Anyway, that set us up for a last place start in the A Main. 9th. A whole row all to ourselves. Joshraces for trophies from the track, and Mt Dew from me. (he loves Mt Dew, but it can do things to him lol) I was looking at all the cars he had to pass to get to the front, it looked like a long way. I assured him I had a 24 oz Dew iced down and ready, should he be able to finish in the top 3. I knew there wasnt a chance.
I told him when the lead cars hit the start line, mash the gas. The race is on. If the offiials dont like the start, whaat are they gonna do ?? Put him to the tail ?? HE'S ALREADY THERE ! ... 1st start didnt take, not because of him. They lined baack up, and the 2nd start was fair, so the race was on. Young Josh started passing cars, one at a time, one or two per lap, and the 2 lead cars, wignall and Haase were running togetheer through "clean air". Much faster through clean air. Coming through traffic, you cant always pick the line you want to run, there are people in the way. You run where you have to, not where you want to. In clean air, you can just go, no one to slow you down. Josh made up spots until he was in third, Behind Wignall and Haase. There was a lot of space between them, but he had made it to third. He had already lapped several cars, aas they had. The event went 15 laps, kids ages 8-12, running 50 + mph, without a caution inccident. It was a great race. Just as they came from turn 4 to take the checkered flag, Joshua lapped the 8 car of Corey Johnson, solidifying a run where the top three (Haase, Wignall, Moffitt) lapped the rest of the field. I would have liked to see a caution with about 3-5 laps remaining to get them bunched up, but these kids are very good. They know to get off the track if need be, They dont crash much either. The track was rough, but it did seem to be tacky enough for great traction. The race was FANTASTIC.
we have been seriously considering selling some or all the cars, but racing like that pretty much squeches those thoughts. still, if you know someeone young or old that may want to try this, i can be contacted at 53outlaw@gmail.com. I may have some equipment for sale. BUT NOT THE 53 ! that thing runs really well !
CONGRATULATIONS JOSHUA !!!!!!

starting the night with a new clutch / gear ratio, Joshua looked to lag a little in Hot Laps. The engine was turning approx 6440 RPM maximum, so the decison was made to change the gear. After changing the gear ratio, the maachine was started for the 1st heat race. On the laast pull oof thee starter, the engine started, but the starter rope broke. One was borrowed from the 21 team of Devin Wignall ... Josh had drawn a number that meant he would start that event last. Josh made his way to 2nd position, and the engine began making a "popping" noise, and eventually it died, Joshua steering into the infield. The spark plug looked to be the problem and was quickly replaaced.
Heat 2 found Joshua and McKenna Haase on the front row, and McKenna got the early lead, soon after, Josh passed and started slowly pulling away from Haase. Again, the popping noise, followed by the engine shutting off. This time several systems were checked, and nothing out of place was found. Just as the machine was being started to go to the grid, a bare wirre from the kill switch was found. Apparently that wire was ground out at speed and shutting the engine off. That connection was quickly taped and the machine ran well for the A Main.
The A Main found Devin and McKenna on the front row, and Joshua on the outside of row 3. When the green flag was dropped, Devin quickly took the lead, and McKenna Haase found herself in 2nd place. Also very quickly, Joshua caught up to the 55 machine of Haase, and raced with her, looking for and trying to maake it around her. It wasnt to be. Those 2 spent the event bumper to bumper, sometimes side by side, racing fast and clean the way they do. It was a very good race. Coming through lap traffic, sometimes they would be bumper to bumper, sometimes theey would find different lines around the traffic. The eventual finishing order of the top 3 would be
Wignall, Haase, Moffitt.

INSANE CLONE POSSE' VISITS ECS O M G !!!!!
A group of young outlaws once again visited rural Marion County Friday night 07/15/11 and brought their brand of disruption to the otherwise quiet community.
A group of young people who have chosen to race brightly colored, powerful racing machines powered by either Tater-Digger engines by Briggs and Stratton, or Chines "Clones" of the popular Honda GX200 OHV engine. Only 1 Tater-digger was present Friday night, and his bid ended early with chain and fuel issues. That left just a group of approximately 6, all choosing "Clone" power, earning themselves a possible moniker "Insane Clone Posse' " (not to be confused with the 90's band of similar name "Insane Clown Posse' ")
Starting the night, the brightly flamed 53 machine of Joshua Moffitt pulled into the infield with unknown fuel or spark issues. Shortly after, the metallic blue 9 of Nathan Jones also went to the infield with a broken chain. Upon breaking, the chain damaged the fuel tank, ending his night, and leaving just the Insane Clone Posse'.
Heat 2 found the 53 of Moffitt re-entering the field. You could hear his machine sputtering some, then a well-timed Caution slowed the fast-moving field. Apparently the cool down brought on by the caution allowed Moffitt's machine to once again run cleanly to nearly 7000 RPM, and Moffitt entered a battle, and eventually passed the current points leader, the 21 of Devin Wignall. Shortly after that pass, however, Moffitt's machine once again slowed to a stop, earning him a LAST PLACE start in the A Main.
The A main was filled with the Fast and Furious crew we have come to enjoy watching every week. Sassy McKenna Haase, Revvin' Devin Wignall, Mad Dog Morgan Dennis, Corey Johnson, Maggie Leavitt, Joshua Moffitt, watching these kids dice for position on the big 1/6+ mile banked track at 50+ MPH will make you sometimes forget to breathe.
Friday night was no different. With Haase and Wignall in the front, and Moffitt at the tail, and 3 top notch competitors between, it was set to be a show not to be missed. And it didn't disappoint. Moffitt worked his way forward, earning every spot, and finding himself in 3rd place behind winner Wignall and runner up Haase.
The Insane clone Posse', as usual, didn't disappoint. They provided a fantastic show and ran a very clean event.
Congratulations also go out to the other winners, Scotty Johnson in the restricted division is getting pretty used to carrying thaat checkered flag. GO SWOOPER !
The Big Man upstairs must have been watching the show, because when it ended he sprinkled a few drops of rain on the racing surface, presumably to cool it and help settle the dust. WOW, Im still breathless.

All concessions, (hot dogs, burgers, brats, drinks, etc) should be eaten prior to the start of the A Mains. This is to ensure that you will have BOTH HANDS available to hold onto the seat when the racing gets intense. And it WILL get intense !
Did anyone see that Restricted Shootout last night ?? Geez, there were about 3 of them that had it in the bag. Riley Goodno came out on top. Congrats Riley !
Then the Adult Clone Wingers ... Mandy Johnson, 1st night racing, picks up the A Main ! GO MANDY !
The Box Stock shootout. Moffitt and Wignall on the front, Haase, Roorda, Leavitt, Dennis all wanting a Lil piece of the pie. Moffitt gets ole Black Lightning into a position to take on Devin Wignall in the 1st couple laps of a 15 lap event, and they couldn't have stayed closer if you chained em together ! Wignall picked up the win, although there were a few hard charges by The Moffinator thaat looked like he was gonna Moffinate ! ... There were big storms in nearby Knoxville, and some Fire in the Sky, but the BLACK LIGHTNING was on the track. Sadly, Haase's run succumbed to some breakage suffered in the 2ND heat. She was making a great run as usual. Roorda and Leavitt were dicing away, too. GREAT racing ... Congrats to Devin Wignall for staying in front from the time they lit the fuse to the time the checkers flew. You earned that one. Again. And especially, Congratulations to my best friend Joshua on a job well done. There is absolutely no shaame in 2nd place in a tough crowd like that ! Hold your head high, mister.
And those crazy guys in their flying machines, The Micros. All I can say is "May I have a little dirt in my Pepsi (and hair) please ?? Thank you, sir" WOW .. 15 of those bad boys started the A Main. They must have thought I wanted a closer look, cuz some of those boys were running those things RIGHT UP BY THE WALL so I could get a good look, I think. MAN. WHAT A SHOW.
SO there you have it. new rule, gotta finish thaat dog or burger so you can hang on w/ both hands when these features start. Congrats to everyone who comes out every week to race and put this show on for me and everyone else to see. I think even the Big Man in charge of the rain must like these races as much as I do. There was rain all around us all night, and big, powerful winds. The tornado sirens were blowing in nearby Sully, and Trees and Poles down in Knoxville. But he kept the show dry enough to run, and only had a little lightning in the sky, and a lot of Lightning on the track. Some of it Black Lightning. That's my favorite kind.
quote from KensRacingPix, the track photographer, regarding the A Main "Devin Wignall stayed on a roll but it wasn't easy as The Moffinator was right on his tail and side by side for the whole race"
Congratulations, Josh, your driving skills really make me look good.
C'mon, tell your friends to come out. Its only 5.00. Shoot, I make that in an hour ! Its the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Or, if the night iss like last night started, with most of 'em off !
see you guys for the re-match next week.

Unfortunately, Devin Wignall and McKenna Haase were able to overcome the deficiency of NOT having flames on their machines and went on to lead The Moffinator to the finish line in the A Main. The track was wet and narrow to start, Joshua Moffitt started the 1st race outside front row, and finished 2nd, being beat *AGAIN* by the 21 of Devin Wignall, from Altoona Iowa. Heat race 2 then found young Joshua lined up on the back row. He made a hard charge to the front, and the event ended with The Rocket in 3rd place. (ask him his name and he will tell you "Joshua The Rocket Mofffitt). The good finishes in both heat races gave him enough points he could light the fuse on the A Main from outside front row.
The A Main got underway, and Josh diced briefly with the 21 and the 55, and was able to settle Black Lightning into the 3rd position. There were several cautions in the event, which is unusual for this group of young racers. Each time Joshua tried to put it on the 55 of McKenna Haase, but each time the additional power of the flames was extinguished, and Joshua settled into a hard run, finishing 3rd to 2 of the other Insane Clonee Posse' members, Devin and McKenna.
Dont let the 3rd place run fool you, Joshua and The brightly flamed 53, "Black Lightning" were ON FIRE ! And the battle will spill over into next week. You will forever be sorry if you miss the rematch next Friday
The R-Box class is quickly becoming the WILD BUNCH ! My Gosh, If those kids are the future of the sport, the future's so bright, we gotta wear shades ! not only is it growing in size, (they are up past 10 machines now), but its growing leaps aand bounds in quality racers. Names like Johnson, Goodno, Kielty, Ellis are likely to be the future of sprint car racing ! The heats were great, but the feature was not to be misssed, Goodno and Johnson, running out front, Kielty coming along, Ellis passing cars and advancing very well, But young Brody Johnson was maybe the star of the night. You have to see this lil guy out of his car to really geet a feel for what is going on out there. He is 4 years old, runs around in a tiny suit with the sleeves and legs rolled uoo and it still too big, and between races stands at the fence whooping and hollering like a marine on leave ! Man, he gets in the car and does really well, he was passing cars and making up spots like a seasoned verteran ( his machine has FLAMES, by the way) .. very cool to watch ! On a sidenote, The Kielty machine also has those 20% add on flames also, but Scotty Johnson and Riley Goodno were able to overcome that also. NICE JOB guys !
the micro sprints were there again. Its like being at "The Big Track" when those guys come. Great show ! if you can catch your breath by Monday, you werent paying close enough attention !
Get well Dan, and we'll see you all next week ! .. you'll see, were gonna turn the heat up on those flames to 25% !
results coming soon.
